The Ride of Silence is held in North America and rolls across the globe. The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to public roadways. Cyclists take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often is not aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.

Raccoon River Valley Trailhead
The Bacoon Ride is a highly anticipated annual bike ride that winds through several central Iowa towns along the Raccoon River Valley Trail. The name itself is a clever play on words that combines “bacon” (a beloved food in Iowa) and “Raccoon” (the trail’s namesake).

The Bacoon Ride has gained immense popularity over the years and attracts participants from all over the country. When you register for the ride, you’ll receive a range of perks, including numerous bacon stops featuring delicious bacon snacks and samples throughout the day, a commemorative PassPORK (a punch card for your bacon treats!), a custom Bacoon Ride t-shirt, and a commemorative Bacoon Ride coozie.

Road + Gravel = Groad. This event is unlike any of the others. The course is made up of tarmac and chip seal, with gravel and dirt sectors. If Mother Nature cooperates, there will be a motocross track and a short section of beginner friendly single track trails. The gravel is fast and features a variety of different flavors of champagne gravel. Tire selection will be key for this one.
