The Ride of Silence is held in North America and rolls across the globe. The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to public roadways. Cyclists take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often is not aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves. A combination of trail and lightly traveled roads in IL. The length will be between 25 and 35 miles with shorter rides in the spring and longer rides with more daylight in the summer. The pace will be 14 to 15 MPH and will be faster in the summer than in the spring as we build up fitness. There will usually be at least one good hill to climb. We will regroup at corners and at the top of hills as needed to keep the group together. The starting location will be in the Ben Butterworth parking lot in Moline, River Dr and 55th St on the border with East Moline. If this lot is flooded, we will move 3 blocks south to the old Hardee‘s on the corner of 4th Ave and 55th St.

Our 2024 loop through Central Illinois will first make its way to Springfield, the state capitol and home of many Abraham Lincoln historical sites. Day two’s layover day provides an opportunity to tour those sites and the extensive Springfield area paved trail system. We then continue our figure eight formation for a night in Forsyth. From there it is off to the home of the University of Illinois Fighting Illini, with two nights in Champaign and layover day routes in the area. This year’s ride concludes on rural roads to Maroa. Join us and invite your friends.

The Bacoon Ride is a highly anticipated annual bike ride that winds through several central Iowa towns along the Raccoon River Valley Trail. The name itself is a clever play on words that combines “bacon” (a beloved food in Iowa) and “Raccoon” (the trail’s namesake). During the ride, cyclists stop at each town to indulge in bacon-themed food and drinks, making for a delicious and enjoyable experience. Additionally, the event supports local charities, making it both fun and philanthropic. The Bacoon Ride has gained immense popularity over the years and attracts participants from all over the country. When you register for the ride, you’ll receive a range of perks, including numerous bacon stops featuring delicious bacon snacks and samples throughout the day, a commemorative PassPORK (a punch card for your bacon treats!), a custom Bacoon Ride t-shirt, and a commemorative Bacoon Ride coozie. This ride is part of the Iowa Bicycle Coalition‘s official training rides for RAGBRAI. Join the fun and experience the excitement of the Bacoon Ride – sign up today!

904- It was the last year there were no paved roads in Illinois. All the roads were narrow, curvy and made of dirt, rock, or bricks. The 1904 course very much resembles this pre-paved era. Come venture back in time with us. This will be the third stop of the Big River Gravel Series, and undoubtedly, the toughest event of the series.
