2019 Spring Windless Tailwind Century

Published on 5/8/2019

We had 44 riders enjoy a beautiful day for a ride with starting temps of 55 degrees but the problem was no wind. We started our route back to the QCA from Rochelle, Illinois. The roads were in great shape with light traffic and they were very flat.

Unfortunately, we had Clara DeCoster crash crossing a set of diagonal railroad tracks a couple miles from the starting point. I want to give a big thanks to Amy Mundisev for helping Clara and providing first aid and putting her arm in a sling. Jaclyn and Dan Mayes were driving the truck and they hadn’t left Rochelle yet and were able to take Clara and Patrick DeCoster back to the QCA, thanks Jaclyn and Dan. As expected Clara had a broken collar bone, Patrick said she was in a lot of pain Saturday afternoon. Monday she said she was feeling better. Thanks to all that helped.

The SAG stop was in Prophetstown 63 miles into the route. The SAG was stocked with sub sandwiches, chips, cookies, energy bars, fruit, drinks and a couple smiling faces supporting the SAG of Becky Luth and Sharon Schwarz thanks to both. Thanks Becky for ordering and getting the food and drinks.

Dave Thompson provided us with a great new route. This was due to the flooding which caused us to change the meeting location from Ben Butterworth Parkway to a location near the The Quarter’s. On Friday Dave did a great job marking the route. Thanks!!!

Thanks to Janette Harrington for lining up the bus for us and Jaclyn Mayes for checking everyone in at the start and Dan Mayes for providing the storage trailer. Thanks to all!!!

Plan on joining us Saturday October 5h for the Fall Tailwind and hopefully we’ll have some wind.
